The Universe Hates Me

Those of you that know me, know that I'm a HUGE Parrot Head and I love me some Jimmy Buffett. Last night, CRH and I went to Waikiki with the purpose of going to Jimmy Buffett's new restaurant at the Beachcomber. So I arrive there with MUCH enthusiasm hoping to see him come in and play a little (since I was sure that he was already in town for his concert this weekend), when we get to the CLOSED doors with two employees standing guard. I see Jimmy playing on a TV screen behind the CLOSED doors and they inform me that the restaurant is closed until 9:30pm because what I'm seeing on that screen is actually a LIVE feed inside. OMG!! Are you freaking kidding me?? After a large display of sadness on my end, I realize it ain't happening...those kids guarding the door are NOT letting me in. We go across the street and have a nice dinner at the Hula Grill instead. After dinner (10:40pm), we head back over to see if we can go in for at least a drink and maybe, just maybe, hoping that he's still hanging out. We get to the door and it's still closed (and LOCKED!) and the screen still shows him jamming. I am not to be thwarted, so I go to the retail side of things. I was informed by the employee that the restaurant is not going to open at all that night because Jimmy just kept playing. SERIOUSLY?? Apparently, if I had wanted to attend this event I would have had to have won a Landshark Lager contest.
To add insult to injury, CRH got carded at the Hula Grill and I did NOT. Now, I will say that we were not standing near each other...but really?? Then after our 2nd attempt to get into the restaurant, we went to Godiva for chocolate chicks. The guy pretty much told me that they have them, but can't sell them yet. Can you stand it?? My stars just were NOT aligned properly last night...at all!

I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts

Today I went to the beach for HOURS...it rocked. CRH burned himself yesterday, so he didn't come...shame. Anyway, I sat out at Pipeline and read and watched the few surfers that were out. One of the surfers was this cute little boy that was about 9 or 10 years old...such a cutie pie and he was catching the waves too. Then on the way home, I stopped at a roadside stand for a coconut. I've lived here for 10 months now and I keep saying that I want to do that...but rarely (never) do I have cash on me and the roadside vendors don't exactly take Visa. I have to say that I think I'd built it up in my head a little too much...it wasn't the yummiest treat in the world that I had imagined it to be. I'm going to cut it up now and see if I enjoy the meaty part. I've had that before and it was ok...MUCH better than that shredded crap they sell in the stores...yuck. Tonight, Eve is staying at Khristy's (she's a goddess!) and CRH and I are going to town. We are having dinner at the NEW Jimmy Buffett restaurant in Waikiki...he's going to be playing here this weekend...maybe we will see him! I was too cheap to buy the tickets...they were like $75 a piece before the Ticketmaster charges...I just couldn't do it.

Swimming with the Fishes

The Hart Family was in the water this weekend. Well, CRH and I were...Eve went out for a few minutes. Saturday, we went to town to pick Nanna and John up from their cruise. After picking them up, we went to Hanauma Bay and snorkeled for a few hours. We saw lots of amazing fish (unicorn fish, tangs, parrot fish, humu humus). We followed this pair of green parrot fish for a while. They were huge and awesome! I've decided that if I ever come back as a fish, I want to be a humu humu. They are so pretty and colorful (plus, I'd get to live in Hawaii again).
Today, we went to Shark's Cove and sunned and snorkeled more. We went all around the cove and saw even more fish (tangs, butterfly fish, Moorish Idols, wrasse, etc). It's just like swimming around in our own aquarium, but better...no upkeep on our part.
Here's a pic of Hanauma Bay.

Revocation of License

If we sucked at driving as much as we do at parenting, this would SURELY happen! Today was another stellar example...of course in front of the whole school. It turns out that today was some sort of Sweetheart Picnic at Ka'a'awa Elementary School. I did not know about this...at all. Eve had asked if I would go to lunch earlier in the week with her and as it turns out, I could not...but I was happy to volunteer her dad today because he was closing...again, it was just coincidence...no idea about this picnic. SO, I reminded CRH like a million and one times that Eve wanted him to come to lunch today. We discussed it last night that lunch is at 11:30am and he said he would in fact be there. Well, I get a text from him at 11:34am telling me that he's running late because of road construction. I get another text at 11:40 telling me that lunch was at 11am (NOT 11:30am) and that Eve had been very disappointed and crying that her dad had not shown up for lunch. OMG...I felt horrible. What kind of mother doesn't know when her kid eats lunch?? (I hope some of you don't...just so I won't feel SO bad!) Then, I get to Nancy's house and find out that Eve spent all of her lunch period crying because Dad wasn't there...I asked why Nancy had been at the school too and she told me that it was the picnic day...wow we suck!
On a positive note, I did remember that today was spring picture day!

Hart Family Valentine's Day

We aren't big celebrators of this day...but Eve is and she decided yesterday to make Mom and Dad dinner last night. Isn't that the cutest thing?? She insisted (literally) on it and last night made us sandwiches and a cookie plate for dessert. The sandwiches were actually really good too. I always think a sandwich is SO much better when someone makes it for you. Here's our very thoughtful little chef.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Mama is going to Vegas! OMG...new job rocks! Our national conference is April 14-17th at The Palms (yep, I might see Hef). I am totally excited! The ONLY downside is that this is the week that Cheryl and Tiff were coming...I am seriously hoping they reschedule for June (or meet me in Vegas). Now, I'm not much of a gambler (of course by not much I mean not at all), but I think I can find plenty to do in my down time.

Don't You Miss Americans?

Gloria and John are here visiting this week. CRH took them down to the lighthouse this morning while I worked and then I met up with them and we had lunch at Ted's Bakery and went to Waimea Falls. While we were sitting at the falls, CRH felt compelled (as he usually does) to engage in conversation with the person sitting beside him. They were apparently discussing the merits of island living on Oahu. I walked up and heard her ask "Don't You Miss Americans?" and felt compelled to walk away in order to not laugh out loud at her. CRH relayed the following exchange...it was just too good to leave out of the blog.

Lady: "But, don't you miss Americans?"
CRH: "We are in America."
Lady: "No, I mean Americans..."
Lady: (In a quiet voice) "you know...white people".
CRH: "Er...."

Seriously?? Then she goes on to complain about how the Hawaiians always look so dour (though she did not use that word). THEN, she proceeds to go on about Southerners talking about how passive the women are...CRH laughed at her at this point and told her that his wife was in fact the complete antithesis of this statement. Can you stand it?? I wish people like that just never, ever left the North...ever.

We completed our day watching sunset and stalking the sea turtles!! Then, we rushed home after dinner to make the Valentines that Mom had forgotten about until 7:15pm!!

Stalking

I am in love with the wildlife here...seriously. I have a slight obsession with it according to Eve, my resident expert. First it was the sea turtles...which I still love and need to go visit soon. I think we will take The Nanna and John when they get here. Now, it is the monk seal. I almost broke my neck (and probably wrecked the car) today when I saw one on the side of the road. I desperately wanted to pull over and look at it RIGHT then and there...but alas we were on the way to hula and they get very upset if you are late for hula...which is ironic since the whole island is in fact always late...but whatever. So on the way home from hula in the dark, we stopped. There was another family stopped too with their lights shining on it...so I got a good look at it...very cool...I just love them. There were also no volunteer guards, so I could have gotten much closer, but I hear that they can be quite aggressive and thought I better keep my distance. I just want to pet one...is that so wrong? We are going whale watching this weekend...I bet the whales are next on my list.

R&R

That has been the theme this weekend...I have done very little! It has been gorgeous all weekend. Yesterday, Eve and I went to Shark's Cove and sat on the beach for a few hours. It was great - sunny and beautiful. We got our feet in and saw lots of fish swimming around us. Today, she wanted a stay home day. I wanted to go the beach, but I decided a day at home wouldn't kill us...though I'm in sunshine withdrawal. :) CRH had to work today. Gloria and John arrive Wednesday night. I hope this weather holds out and we can do some fun stuff with them outside! Oh yeah, we live in Hawaii...it's almost always sunny on at least one part of the island!

Eve's 100th day of Kindergarten is tomorrow...it is flying by...next week she's going to be graduating from high school! Her teacher is having each kid bring 100 of something...we are bringing 100 mini marshmallows.

Facebook

It has taken us over at the Hart house...OMG. Eve even knows about it. CRH joined today...he was on ALL morning. It's like crack...so addictive. There is nothing else going on here. We are in week 3 of Madison's visit. He and CRH are camping as I type...so the house is quiet and all mine tonight! CRH called me earlier to tell me that they had seen 3 whales breaching...I'm a little jealous of this.

Oh No He Didn't!

Snap, Snap...ok I date myself...but after you read this entry...what else is there to say...really?
So, my husband is NORMALLY the nicest, most caring, considerate, and supportive man in the universe...except when I'm sick...and except for today. The devil must have just crawled up inside him tonight because here's what he did.
I come home from work and we order pizza for dinner because I have 14 points left over from the day!! I officially joining WW online yesterday. I was so freaking busy at work today that I didn't have time to eat much...which was a good thing. Ok, so I eat 2 delightful pieces of Pizza Hut's All Natural Italian Sausage and Red Onion pizza (YUM!). This only leaves me with 2 points left...so I will save them for a little something chocolate or sugary later...BUT as I'm putting away the leftovers I see THE PIE. CRH bought a pie from Ted's bakery (my favorite!) the other night. I remarked that I sure would love to eat a piece of pie but alas...I'm dieting. Then, I proceed to go finish my Wii Fit workout. CRH turns to the fridge and says "Yeah, pie does sound really good! I think I'll have a piece." He proceeds to cut himself a HUGE slice and eats it while watching me run in place for 10 minutes. I wanted to hit him over the head with the Wii remote...seriously.
